单词 resolutory
释义

resolutoryadj.

Brit. /rᵻˈzɒljᵿt(ə)ri/, /ˌrɛzəˈl(j)uːt(ə)ri/, U.S. /rəˈzɑljəˌtɔri/, /riˈzɑljəˌtɔri/, /ˌrɛzəˈludəri/
Forms: 1500s–1600s 1800s– resolutory, 1600s resolutorie.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin resolutorius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin resolutorius analytic, explanatory (5th cent.) < classical Latin resolūt- , past participial stem of resolvere resolve v. + -ōrius -ory suffix2. Compare Middle French resolutoire, French résolutoire (c1485 in the adverb resolutoirement ‘in a determined manner’, 1701 in legal use in clause résolutoire), Spanish resolutorio (late 15th cent.), Italian †resolutorio (a1550; rare), and also Middle French resolutaire (1488 in an edition of Oresme; it is unclear whether this shows a transmission error or suffix substitution).
1. Having the effect of resolving, clarifying, or explaining something. Now rare.
