Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French resigné, resigner.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman resigné (first quarter of the 14th cent.; also more fully resigné de teste , literally ‘resigned of head’), specific use as adjective of past participle of resigner resign v.1 The animal is so called because it is thought to be ‘resigned’, i.e. has no more expectations, with respect to the future growth of its antlers.
Obsolete. rare.
Of a hart: having fully developed antlers.
