Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French renaissant.
Etymology: < French renaissant, present participle of renaître to be born again (see Renaissance n.). In sense 1 after Renaissance n. 1a; similar spec. use is found in French, but is not dated in French dictionaries. Compare renascent adj.
Now rare.
1. Frequently with capital initial. Of or relating to the Renaissance. In quot. 1886 as n.: the Renaissance style. Cf. Renaissance n. Compounds 1a.
