Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French remuage.
Etymology: < French remuage (probably early 20th cent.), spec. sense of remuage action of moving (14th cent. in Middle French) < remuer remue v. + -age -age suffix. Compare remueur n.Not fully naturalized in English. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) gives the less naturalized pronunciation (rəmuaʒ) /rəmuaʒ/.
Winemaking.
In méthode champenoise: the periodic turning and shaking of sparkling wine, esp. champagne, in its bottle to move sediment towards the cork or cap (for eventual removal before the wine is finished for shipment); riddling.
