Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: re- prefix, Greek λέξις , -fy suffix.
Etymology: < re- prefix + ancient Greek λέξις word (see lexis n.) + -fy suffix. Compare slightly earlier relexification n., relexified adj.
Linguistics.
transitive. To introduce into (a language) vocabulary taken from another language without grammatical adjustment of the items introduced; to subject to relexification (see relexification n.). Chiefly in passive.
