Origin: A borrowing from Latin; apparently originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin relevāt-, relevāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin relevāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of relevāre relieve v., apparently originally after Middle French, French relever (see relieve v.). Compare earlier relevation n.In relevated adj. at Derivatives apparently after Italian rilevato (a1353; 1634 in the passage translated in quot. 1635 for relevated adj.), use as adjective of past participle of rilevare (see relieve v.).
Obsolete.
