Etymology: < French remanié (1840 or earlier in geological contexts, e.g. with reference to glaciers; 1825 or earlier in general sense ‘rearranged, reshaped’), use as adjective of past participle of remanier to rearrange, rework, reshape (13th cent. in Old French) < re- re- prefix + manier to handle (see manner n.).

Geology and Palaeontology.

Of a stratum (esp. a fossiliferous deposit), glacier, or other structure: consisting of or containing material from an older formation that has been redeposited. Of fossils: originating in a deposit older than that in which they are found.
