单词 registery
释义

registeryn.

Brit. /ˈrɛdʒᵻstəri/, U.S. /ˈrɛdʒəstəri/
Forms: late Middle English regestery, 1500s– registery.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin regesterium ; -ery suffix.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin regesterium, in uncertain sense (see quot. 1483; c1503 in a British source as registerium in sense ‘bookmark’), alteration (after classical Latin nouns in -ērium , e.g. desidērium desiderium n.) of < registrarium register, record (1408 in a British source), registry (1416 in a British source) < registrare register v. + classical Latin -ārium -ary suffix1. In later use probably < regist- (in register v.) + -ery suffix.
= registry n. (in various senses); esp. a repository where registers are kept (cf. registry n. 2).In quot. 1483 the meaning is perhaps ‘bookmark’ (cf. register n.1 8a).
