Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French régisseur.
Etymology: < French régisseur governor, manager (1724; late 18th cent. or earlier with specific reference to the theatre) < régiss- , present stem of régir to rule, govern (see régie n.) + -eur -eur suffix.
1. Chiefly in French-speaking contexts: a manager or supervisor, esp. of a vineyard or large estate.
