Etymology: < re- prefix + migrant n., originally after scientific Latin remigrantes, plural (1889 in Blochmann; compare quot. 1903 at sense 1). In later use probably partly also after remigrate v.

1. Entomology. In aphids and other plant lice: a female of a winged parthenogenetic generation (sexuparae) that returns to the primary plant host in the autumn.
