单词 rejecting
释义

rejectingn.

Brit. /rᵻˈdʒɛktɪŋ/, U.S. /rəˈdʒɛktɪŋ/, /riˈdʒɛktɪŋ/
Forms: see reject v. and -ing suffix1; also late Middle English regetting, late Middle English reiettynge.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: reject v., -ing suffix1.
Etymology: < reject v. + -ing suffix1.Slightly earlier currency is perhaps implied by the variant reading reseityng (from the Vespasian manuscript) of the passage in quot. a1425; this is defined by Middle Eng. Dict. (at receiting ger., of which it is the only example) as ‘taking shelter, hiding’, with a derivation < receipt v.1 + -ing suffix1; however, this poses semantic difficulties, as the sense ‘to take shelter’ is not attested in English for the verb (compare however Anglo-Norman reseter to take refuge: see reset v.1), and reseityng perhaps shows a transmission error for a form of rejecting.
The action or an act of rejecting someone or something. In quot. a1425: †the action of kicking backwards with the hind legs (obsolete).
