Etymology: Probably < post-classical Latin refusion-, refusio refund, restitution, (in theology, of the son into the father) act of returning (4th cent.) < classical Latin refūs- , past participial stem of refundere refund v.¹ + -iō -ion suffix¹. Compare Anglo-Norman refusion (probably) action of putting off (1354).
