Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French rémolade.
Etymology: < French rémolade plaster made up of bran, honey, etc., used to treat sprains in horses (1640; also rémoulade (1835)) < Italian regional (Emilia Romagna and Lombardy) remolada , probably < remolo bran (14th cent.; < post-classical Latin remolum (13th cent. in Italian sources; also as remola ), apparently < an unattested post-classical Latin form *remolere to grind again < classical Latin re- re- prefix + molere to grind: see meal n.1) + -ada -ade suffix. Compare remoulade n., ramolade n., which are probably not directly related but are similar in form.Apparently attested only in translations of French works.
Farriery. Obsolete.
A honey-based ointment used to soften the foot of a horse, or reduce swelling.
