Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Rembrandt.
Etymology: < the name of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–69), Dutch painter. The name apparently results from the general association of tulips with Holland, and the frequent occurrence of unusual tulips in Dutch still life paintings (although not in Rembrandt's work).
Any of a group of Darwin tulips with streaked, feathered, or variegated flowers.
