Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French reflet.
Etymology: < French reflet (1662; 1651 in technical use in painting) < Italian riflesso reflection (see reflex n.), with remodelling of the ending by association with classical Latin reflectere reflect v.
Now rare.
Colour due to reflection; lustre, iridescence; spec. a metallic lustre on ceramics. Also figurative.
