Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish redondilla.
Etymology: < Spanish redondilla (16th cent.; also redondillo ) < redondo round (see round adj.) + -illa (see -illa suffix), after French rondeau or one of its cognates (see rondeau n.).
In Spanish poetry: a stanza of rhyming verse; spec. (in early use) = rondeau n. 1a; (in later use) a stanza of four trochaic lines of six or eight syllables, in which the first line rhymes with the fourth, and the second with the third.
