单词 redivive
释义

rediviveadj.

Brit. /ˈrɛdɪvʌɪv/, U.S. /ˈrɛdiˌvaɪv/
Forms: 1500s rediviue (Scottish), 1600s 1800s– redivive.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin redivīvus.
Etymology: < classical Latin redivīvus reused, second-hand, in post-classical Latin also revived, brought back to life (3rd cent.), of uncertain origin; perhaps related to reduvia (also redivia ) hangnail (see reduviid n.). Compare Italian redivivo (a1306).The post-classical Latin sense is probably due to a popular interpretation of the word as derived < redire to return (see redient adj.) + vīvus living, alive (see vive adj.). In sense 2 after Danish redivive ( E. Warming Om Planterigets Livsformer (1908) i. 14).
Now rare and archaic.
