Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Adermin.
Etymology: < German Adermin (R. Kuhn and G. Wendt 1938, in Berichte der Deutsch. Chem. Ges. 71 1534) < a- a- prefix6 + ancient Greek δέρμα skin (see derma n.) + German -in -in suffix1, apparently so called because it acted to prevent a form of dermatitis in rats.
Biochemistry. Now rare.

1938 Brit. Chem. & Physiol. Abstr. 505 It is converted by acetic anhydride into acetyladermin, b.p. 85–90°/0·0001 mm., transformed by HCl into adermin hydrochloride, m.p. 204–205° (decomp.).
1939 P. György & R. G. Eckardt in Nature 16 Sept. 512/2 The term adermin, because it is misleading, should be abandoned... The term pyridoxin appears to be appropriate.
1978 P. M. Robinson Pract. Fungal Physiol. v. 82 Pyridoxine (vitamin B6, adermin) is required by fewer fungi than is biotin or thiamine.
2006 E. Kuntz & H.-D. Kuntz Hepatology (ed. 2) iii. 48/2 Three substances are classed under the term pyridoxine or adermine: pyridoxol, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine.
