Etymology: < classical Latin recurvus recurve adj. + -ous suffix. Compare earlier recurve adj., recurved adj., recurvate adj., and recurvant adj. Compare also earlier curvous adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (rĭkɒ̄·ɹvəs) /rɪˈkɜːvəs/.
