Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on a Latin lexical item. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: recuperate v., -ory suffix2, Latin recuperātōrius.
Etymology: In sense 1 < recuperate v. + -ory suffix2, originally after classical Latin recuperātōrius (see below). In sense 2 < classical Latin recuperātōrius (also reciperātōrius ) of or belonging to an assessor < recuperātōr recuperator n. + -ius , suffix forming adjectives. Compare earlier recuperative adj.
