Etymology: < classical Latin recubāt-, past participial stem of recubāre to lie back, recline ( < re- re- prefix + cubāre to recline, sleep: see cubation n.1) + -ion suffix1; compare -ation suffix. Compare post-classical Latin recubatio action of laying or fixing in place again (1321 in a British source).
Obsolete.
The action of reclining or lying down; a reclining posture.In later use chiefly with reference to animals.
