Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin rectiōn-, rectiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin rectiōn-, rectiō act of directing or governing, in post-classical Latin also (in grammar) government (1576 in the passage translated in quot. 1585; 1610 in a British source) < rect- , past participial stem of regere to rule (see regent adj.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French rheccion direction, government (1503).
