Accumulation of (toxic) chemicals in the tissues of organisms; spec. their progressive concentration in organisms further up the food chain.

1969 N.Y. Times 27 Apr. d42/5 Continuous exposure of soil and water organisms to low levels of DDT or other chlorinated hydrocarbons results in a build-up (biomagnification) of the pesticide in the fatty tissues of the organism many times over the level of exposure.
