Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish recorte.
Etymology: < Spanish recorte (1796 or earlier), specific sense of recorte action of cutting or trimming (1795 or earlier) < recortar to cut or trim (16th cent. or earlier) < re- re- prefix + cortar to cut, shorten < classical Latin curtāre (see curtate adj.).
Bullfighting.
A movement of a torero's cape or muleta which causes the bull to turn so sharply it comes to a stop.
