a. Of a sail: that has been partially taken in or rolled up in order to reduce the area exposed to the wind (see reef v.1 1a) (also reefed-up). Of a boat: having one or more sails which have been reefed.Frequently with preceding modifying word indicating the degree of reefing or the number of reefs, as close-, double-, single-reefed, etc.: see also the first element.
