Origin: A borrowing from Spanish; partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymon: Spanish recámara.
Etymology: < Spanish recámara (a1495) < re re- prefix + cámara chamber, room (see camera n.). In β. forms remodelled after classical Latin camera camera n., probably after either Italian recamera (1611 or earlier) or post-classical Latin recamera (c1620 in a British source). Compare Portuguese recâmara (a1570).
