Etymology: < re- prefix + collapse v.
Now chiefly Astronomy.
intransitive. To collapse again; spec. (of the universe) to contract to a singular state of extreme density and temperature similar to that hypothesized to exist before the big bang (cf. big crunch n. at big adj. and adv. Compounds 2).
