Etymology: < post-classical Latin recognitor juror, recognitor (frequently from 12th cent. in British sources), editor or reviser of texts (16th cent. in British and continental sources) < classical Latin recognit- , past participial stem of recognōscere recognosce v. + -or -or suffix. With sense 2 compare earlier recognizor n.
