Etymology: < re- prefix + attachment n., in sense 1 originally after post-classical Latin reattachiamentum, in legal use (15th cent. in a British source); in later use chiefly after reattach v.
1. Law. An attachment (attachment n. 1) made to secure the attendance of a defendant after a case has been interrupted and deferred sine die. Obsolete.The effect of a reattachment is to restart litigation at the point at which it had been discontinued on the writ previously sued to begin the litigation, without the need to start it again with a new writ.
