单词 bigos
释义

bigosn.

Brit. /ˈbiːɡɒs/, U.S. /ˈbiɡɔs/
Origin: A borrowing from Polish. Etymon: Polish bigos.
Etymology: < Polish bigos traditional stew of cabbage and meat (1834 or earlier), transferred use of bigos mince, chopped meat (1534), further etymology uncertain; perhaps ultimately < early modern German begossen doused, past participle of begießen to pour (a liquid) on (a thing), to douse (see beyet v.), the dish being so called because it is traditionally doused with wine.German †Beguß act of pouring on a liquid, act of dousing (1561 or earlier; rare; < begießen) has sometimes been suggested as an alternative proximate etymon for the Polish word, but this is unlikely for phonological reasons, since Polish bigos invariably shows final -os.
In Polish cookery: a traditional stew of cabbage and meat.
