单词 redshire
释义

redshireadj.n.

Forms:

α. 1600s redshare.

β. 1600s–1700s redshire.

Origin: Probably formed within English, by compounding; perhaps modelled on a Swedish lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a Danish lexical item. Etymons: red adj., coldshire , colshire , cold-short adj.
Etymology: Probably < red adj. + -shire (in coldshire, colshire, variants of cold-short adj.; compare forms at that entry), perhaps after either Swedish rödskör or Danish rødskør (although both of these are apparently first attested later: see red-short n. and adj.). The α. forms apparently show alteration by association with share n.1 (see context in quot. 1665); compare earlier colsar , coldshare , variants of cold-short adj. Compare later red-sear n., red-sear adj., and also hot short adj.
Founding. Obsolete.
= red-short adj. Also as n.
