Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Recensor.
Etymology: < German †Recensor (now Rezensor ) reviser or editor of a text (1821 (in the passage translated in quot. 1827) or earlier in this sense; 1830 or earlier in sense ‘literary critic, reviewer’) < post-classical Latin recensor reviser of texts (a1406) < recēns- , past participial stem of classical Latin recēnsēre recense v. + -or -or suffix.
A person who recenses something; esp. the reviser or editor of a text.
