Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; partly modelled on a Spanish lexical item. Etymons: re- prefix, concentrate v.
Etymology: < re- prefix + concentrate v. (although this is apparently first attested later), in sense 1 after Spanish reconcentrar to concentrate more closely or intensively, to confine in a small space (second half of the 16th cent.; chiefly used reflexively; < re- re- prefix + concentrar concentrate v.).
