单词 ranine
释义

ranineadj.n.

Brit. /ˈreɪnʌɪn/, /ˈranʌɪn/, U.S. /ˈreɪˌnaɪn/, /ˈræˌnaɪn/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin raninus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin raninus (mid 13th cent. in raninae venae ranine veins) < classical Latin rāna frog (see ranid n.) + -īnus -ine suffix1. On the reason for the name in sense A. 1 see quot. 1615. With sense A. 1 compare French ranine (1690 in veine ranine , 1793 in artère ranine ). With senses A. 2 and B. 2 compare scientific Latin Raninae, subfamily and former family name ( H. G. Bronn Handb. Geschichte der Natur (1849) V. 684, after earlier Ranina, J. E. Gray 1825, in Ann. Philos. 10 214), and also French ranin which resembles a frog (1842).
