Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German rangen.
Etymology: < early modern German rangen, also range, rang (probably 15th cent. as range), perhaps related to rank, rankkorn (Middle High German rankorn), in the same or similar sense; further etymology unknown.
Obsolete. rare.
A disease of pigs characterized by a hard white swelling in the throat or lower part of the cheek. Not identified, though suggested in some sources to be diphtheria or anthrax.
