Etymology: < raven v. + -ed suffix1.The active sense ‘ravening, ravenous’ may have originated in an alternative interpretation of quot. a1616 at ravined adj.1:1790 E. Malone Note on Macbeth in Plays & Poems Shakspeare IV. 385 I believe, our author, with his usual licence, used ravin'd for ravenous, the passive participle for the adjective.
