Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ratiōnābilis.
Etymology: < classical Latin ratiōnābilis rational, reasonable < ratiōn- , ratiō ratio n. + -ābilis -able suffix. Compare Old French rationable endowed with reason (13th cent.). Compare earlier reasonable adj.Regarded as obsolete by N.E.D. (1903). Some modern instances may represent errors for rational adj.
Now rare.
