Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps < Raploch, the name of a district in Stirling, Scotland (attested in the 14th cent. as Raplach and Roppelache).There is no direct evidence connecting this word to the name of Raploch, but the wool industry was present in Stirling from late medieval times.
