Etymology: < Italian rapini, plural noun (1824) < rapa turnip (see rape n.5) + -ini , plural of -ino -ine suffix4.
A plant related to the turnip ( Brassica rapa) thought to have originated in the Mediterranean but now widely cultivated for its edible leaves and buds, the latter resembling small heads of broccoli; the green parts of this plant, commonly used as a vegetable in Chinese and Italian cooking.
