Etymology: < rape n.5 + seed n. Compare Middle Dutch raepsaed (a1366; Dutch raapzaat).
1. The seed of the rape (rape n.5); (in later use) esp. that of Brassica napus subsp. oleifera (= rape n.5 2a(b)), used chiefly for the production of oil.
