Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymon: Hebrew RṢ.
Etymology: < modern Hebrew RṢ (read as raṣ ) < the letters rēš and ṣāḏēh , which were chosen (apparently arbitrarily) to identify the party's ballots. Compare Meretz n.
Now historical.
A secular, left-wing Israeli political party established in 1973, which in 1992 joined with the Mapam and Shinui parties to form the Meretz Party. Cf. Meretz n.
