Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin rabiatus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin rabiatus, past participle of rabiare to be mad (6th cent.), alteration, with change of conjugation (both infinitives correspond to a first singular rabio ), of classical Latin rabere to rave, be mad (see rabies n.). Compare rabious adj.Post-classical Latin rabiare was earlier borrowed into Old English as rabbian to rage.
Obsolete. rare.
Affected with rabies; rabid.
