单词 rabbin
释义

rabbinn.

Brit. /ˈrabɪn/, U.S. /ˈræbən/
Forms: 1500s–1600s rabbyn, 1500s–1600s rabbyne, 1500s–1600s rabine, 1500s–1600s rabyne, 1500s–1700s rabbine, 1500s–1700s rabin, 1500s– rabbin. Also with capital initial.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French rabbin.
Etymology: < Middle French, French rabbin rabbi (1540; 1351 as rabain ), ultimately < post-biblical Hebrew rabbī rabbi n.1; the final -n in French (and likewise in post-classical Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian: see forms below) may reflect either Aramaic rabbīn , plural of rabb master, or suffix substitution (compare -ine suffix4), or perhaps analogy with the usual correspondence of a final stressed vowel in Occitan and Catalan (see forms at rabbi n.1) with a final -n in other Romance languages. Compare post-classical Latin rabinus (1522 in Erasmus; from 1552 in British sources), Spanish rabino (1466; also 15th cent. as rabín in an isolated attestation), Portuguese rabino (1573), Italian rabbino (a1588).Formerly occasionally with unchanged plural (compare quot. 1826 at sense 2).
1. = rabbi n.1 3a. Obsolete.
