Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin quotiens , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin quotiens, with final -t by association with Latin present participial stems in -ent- (see quotient n.) + -ive suffix, after interrogative adj., etc.
Grammar. Now rare.
Of an adverb: that indicates frequency, answering ‘how often?’, ‘how many times?’
