Origin: A borrowing from Nyungar. Etymon: Nyungar kwaka.
Etymology: < Nyungar (Perth–Albany region) kwaka.Compare the following early attestation of the Nyungar word in an English context:c1857 J. Gould Mammals Austral. (1863) II. (caption to plate 38) At Augusta..its native name, Quäk-a, is the same as at King George's Sound.
A very small wallaby, Setonix brachyurus, with a short face, rounded ears, and a short tail, found on two islands off south-western Australia and (locally) on the adjacent mainland. Also called short-tailed wallaby.
