In later use also < quoit v. + -er suffix1.Attested earlier as a surname, although it is unclear whether this is to be taken as reflecting currency of the Middle English or an (otherwise unattested) Anglo-Norman word (showing suffixation in -er -er suffix2):1293 Patent Roll, 21 Edward I 12 Mar.
