Etymology: < German Raimondit (A. Breithaupt 1866, in Berg- u. Hüttenmännische Zeitung 25 149/1) < the name of Antonio Raimondi (1824–90), Italian-born Peruvian scientist who discovered the mineral + German -it -ite suffix¹.

A rare mineral originally reported as yellowish hexagonal plates from Bolivian tin mines, perhaps a form of jarosite.Raimondite is a hydrous sulphate of iron and potassium. Crystal system: trigonal.
