Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: English quoice , queest n., neck n.1
Etymology: < quoice, regional variant of queest n. (compare forms at that entry) + neck n.1, so named because the surface is similar in colour to the iridescent feathers on the neck of a wood pigeon.
Mining. English regional (Shropshire). Now rare (perhaps obsolete).
A type of grey shale or clay with an iridescent surface.
