Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French quiser.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman quiser, quisser piece of armour for protecting the thigh (13th cent.; compare Middle French (Picardy) cuissiere ) < cuisse , quise , quisse thigh (see cuisse n.) + -er -er suffix2. With sense 2 compare cuisse n.Quot. 1310 at sense 1 could perhaps alternatively be interpreted as showing the Anglo-Norman word (which is apparently not otherwise attested denoting someone who makes armour for the thighs); compare also use as surname, which is similarly ambiguous (e.g. Richard le Kyssere (1279).
Obsolete. rare.
