单词 quirer
释义

quirern.

Forms: late Middle English querer, 1600s quirer.
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French cuerier ; choir n., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Either < Middle French cuerier (1382; < cuer choir n. + -ier -er suffix2 2) or < choir n. (see α. and β. forms at choir n.) + -er suffix1. Compare post-classical Latin chorarius , chorearius chorister (13th cent.), choir-leader, precentor (15th cent. in a British source). Compare later choir v. and also earlier chorister n. Middle Eng. Dict. s.v. quērer n. lists 13th-cent. examples of a surname le Quirer , but at this date this form is unlikely to show this word, and more probably show a derivative of Anglo-Norman cuir hide (see cuirass n.).
Obsolete. rare.
A chorister.
